Page two. The Saunterer moves from the civic centre and finds a bluegum tree growing out of the pavement — roots under concrete, canopy over traffic. Behind it, just visible, the City Hall from the previous page. The city folds back on itself.

Below: a Victorian building at night, somewhere in the same neighbourhood. Jotam doesn't know exactly which one. He was walking, he saw it, he drew it.

The two panels talk to each other — geometric ornament below, organic persistence above. The tree doesn't care about the architecture. The architecture doesn't notice the tree. Cape Town holds both without resolving the tension.

Pencil on paper, enlarged to A1 and finished with subtle digital colour. At this scale the pencil marks themselves become part of what you're looking at.
