Original artwork by Jotam Schoeman. Bedoelende Studio, Cape Town.
The first page of Kaapstad Studies - a graphic novel in progress, drawn perspectives seen on foot sauntering through Cape Town.
Two panels. Above: seagulls in flight, wings cutting through open sky. Below: the Cape Town City Hall, palms rising in front of it, built on ground that was already the centre of something before it was named.
This is roughly where the first settlers established the refreshment station. Close to the original castle. The oldest fixed point of the city as it became what it is.
The gulls don't know any of this. That's the point.
Pencil on paper, enlarged to A1 and finished with subtle digital colour. At this scale the pencil marks themselves become part of what you're looking at.
Limited edition of 8 prints. Signed by Jotam Schoeman. Certificate of authenticity included. Printed on True Rag giclée by Wet Ink, Cape Town.
